Game Tables

As we near the holidays and prepare our homes for hosting friends and families alike, I’m reminded of how useful game tables are for gatherings.  Some families love to have game nights or pull out a puzzle during the holiday season.  If this is part of your lifestyle, adding a game table to your living room or family room is a great idea.  As a bonus, you introduce additional seating to your space that can be helpful for entertaining.  Here are some rooms with game tables:

Here are some of my favorite game tables from Hickory Chair and Highland House, two brands we love at Rivers Spencer Interiors!

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is less than a week away!  We recently added new throw pillows to our Magazine Street showroom if you’re in need of some last minute items to freshen up your home for hosting.  Stop by and we’d love to help!

Highland House Furniture

As I mentioned in last week’s post, Highland House was one of my favorite discoveries at market.  I was impressed with the broad selection of well made upholstered and wood pieces alike.  I know their collection of quality classic pieces will compliment our existing suppliers and offer our clients even more choices in pulling together their perfect room.

What I love about Highland House is they have many traditional pieces and also offer slightly more modern pieces.  I’m a strong believer in mixing old and new and classic with something fresh.  Many of my clients are drawn to traditional southern interiors yet also want a few statement pieces to bring a modern take to an otherwise traditional interior. In their own words, here is some information on Highland House:

For 50 years, the Highland House name has been synonymous with fine, classic, traditional upholstery and case goods. Our stylish sofas, settees, loveseats, chairs and ottomans are renowned for impeccable tailoring as well as the finest fashion-forward fabrics and decorative trimmings. Highland House upholstery is more than just beautiful because we make comfort a priority through a range of comfort levels and values virtually unsurpassed in today’s marketplace.” (source)

Drip Affogato Bar

This year, New Orleans has seen an influx of new hotels, restaurants and shops.  I recently had the chance to check out the much buzzed about (no pun intended) newcomer Drip Affogato Bar.  Located in the popular Warehouse District, Drip serves ice cream from Creole Creamery and features French Truck coffee.  Their specialty, affogato, is an Italian dessert where you pour espresso over ice cream.  The space is cozy and sleek and the branding of the store is spot on which is no surprise considering one of the owners, Juley Le, is a popular New Orleans blogger with her lifestyle blog Upperlyne & Co.  During my visit, I tried the pumpkin spice affogato and it was delicious!!!  Take a look at some pictures from Drip’s instagram account of their shop and affogatos:

What a wonderful addition to our city, welcome Drip!

Emmy Rossum’s New York Apartment

Did any of you see Emmy Rossum’s New York apartment in this month’s issue of Elle Decor?  Emmy employed Interior Designer Antonino Buzzetta to renovate and design the glamorous pre-war apartment.  The finished apartment is a perfect example of how custom details (the beautiful molding!) and good design can make a small apartment sing.  Take a look at the finished apartment:

I hope you enjoyed this space as much as I did and feel inspired that even small spaces can feel comfortable and luxurious!

The Grocery Apartments Renovation

For those of you following me on instagram, you’ve seen a few photos of my recently completed Grocery project.  I’ve been working with my client over the past year to renovate five apartments above the Grocery, a popular Garden District deli.  The location of these apartments is ideal, directly on St. Charles Avenue and in the heart of the Garden District.  I’m so thrilled with the outcome of this project.  These apartments now look fresh, clean and ready for someone to move in and add their own personalized touches.  I went with a light color palette to accentuate the tall ceilings and the beautiful natural light that flood these spaces from the large windows.  Here are some more photos of these 1 and 2 bedroom apartments:

These apartments are available for rent through Latter & Blum.  If you would like more information, reach out to realtor Ashley Lengsfield.

Fall Favorites

Even though we still have warm days, it’s technically fall which is my favorite season in New Orleans.  To celebrate the season, here are a few favorites:

pumpkin bread

Cooking Light

1. Anything pumpkin or pumpkin spice!  I recently made this lighter version of chocolate chip pumpkin bread and it turned out delicious.  I saved one for myself and gave one away as a hostess gift.

2. New Orleans inaugural Beignet Festival.  New Orleans hosts over 130 festivals each year and who doesn’t love Beignets?  This free festival is held at Lafayette Square this Saturday from 10-4pm and proceeds support Tres Doux Foundation, an organization to help children with autism.  Over 15 restaurants will serve beignets.

Decanters

3. With the cooler temps, tailgates and upcoming holiday season, it is cocktail season!  We have beautiful decanters and bar ware options to dress up your bar cart for the season.

I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the fall season!

Legacy Home

I’m pleased to add Legacy Home to our list of vendors offered at our Magazine Street showroom.  Legacy Home has over 30 years experience in creating high quality bedding, bath and accessory collections.  Their linens are manufactured in their Virginia workrooms and they employ skilled artisans to create unique and beautiful designs.  I’m in love with many of their luxurious bedding designs and can’t wait to use them in my designs.  Take a look at a sample of their bedding collections:

And here are some of their beautiful bath offerings:

Fall Branches

Even though tomorrow is October 1st, it still feels like summer in New Orleans with our warm 80+ degree weather.  However, with the introduction of everything pumpkin spice in stores, I’m trying to get into the fall spirit as I anxiously await cooler temperatures.  I love the colors of fall when the leaves change color and reveal a rich palette of yellow, orange and brown.  One way I bring fall into my own home is by picking up some branches (either from outside or from a florist) and arranging them in a vase.  I absolutely love this look as the arrangement adds height and drama and breathes life into a room.  I used some branches this past Spring in one of my New Orleans projects:

We offer several beautiful vases online here that you can use to create your own arrangement.  How do you like to decorate for fall?

Southeastern Designer Showhouse Update

I was pleased to be part of the inaugural Atlanta Homes and Lifestyle’s Southeastern Designer Showhouse and Gardens.  I originally wrote about the event here in April while preparing my design for the upstairs living room.  The showhouse wrapped up in May and you can now view the finished interiors of over 20 designers online.  Here is a glimpse of some of the completed spaces within the new 28,000 square foot home.

As you can see, I was in great company and enjoyed seeing the finished product of these wonderful Designers!
